Barred from visiting family of slain Anantnag youth killed in force action: PDP President Mehbooba

Police urge not to visit place due to security reasons

SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was on Monday barred from visiting the slain youth’s family in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Mehbooba was scheduled to visit slain Shahid Ahmad’s residence today, who was killed in ‘cross firing’ in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. Mehbooba said that she was not allowed to meet the family of slain youth in Anantnag.

She said that when anyone is being killed by the militants, they are being allowed to meet the slain family, “but it is unfortunate that whenever anyone is being killed in forces action, no one is being allowed to meet the bereaved family”.

“So far, no compensation has been given to the bereaved family. The government should take steps to provide compensation to the family of Shahid and his NoK’s must be given the job as well,” she said. Meanwhile, a top police official said that the PDP chief was not allowed to visit the place due to “security reasons”—
