Badrinath portals opened under strict compliance with COVID-19 protocol

In Uttarakhand, portals of Badrinath shrine were opened this morning with traditional fervor and gaiety after the winter break. Portals were opened amid chanting of Vedic Mantras and performance of other religious rituals. The temple was specially decorated with flowers to mark the occasion.

Only priests and few senior District administration officials were present on the occasion due to Covid-19 pandemic. Social distancing and other covid protocols were ensured during the opening of the portals. State government has suspended the Char Dham Yatra following the surge in covid pandemic in the state. Earlier, portals of the other three shrines – Gangotri, Yamunotri and Kedarnath were thrown open.
