Srinagar: Authorities has imposed restrictions in old city for precautionary measures after Central Jail Incident.
A senior Police officer said that restrictions have been imposed for precautionary as to avoid any law and order problem as today is Friday.
Meanwhile authorities have also throttled high speed mobile internet to 2G in Srinagar city.
As per reports, protests and scuffle erupted between prisoners and prison security in Central Jail Srinagar late last evening after jail imates objected to carry out “repair and reinforcement inside a barrack” by the authorities.
Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh, who is also DG Prisons said that some inmates instigated others to stop the repair and reinforcement works inside a barrack.
Later other jail inmates joined and resorted to some violent acts inside on the jail staff. They also set some places on fire,” the DG said, adding that DIG Police Central Kashmir Range, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and SSP Srinagar are on the spot to assess the situation.
