Srinagar, June 8: For the third consecutive day on Tuesday, Kashmir saw no respite from the scorching heat wave conditions as summer capital Srinagar sizzled at 34.3 degrees Celsius. This temperature is 6.4 degrees Celsius above normal, making it the second hottest June day in Srinagar recorded in the last 11 years. As per MeT data, Srinagar was the hottest recorded station in the Valley followed by Kupwara in north Kashmir which recorded 34 degrees Celsius.
As per Meteorological Department data, the highest June temperature recorded in Srinagar in the last 11 years was 35 degrees Celsius on June 3, 2018. The highest ever temperature in June in the summer capital is 37.8 degrees Celsius recorded on June 29, 1978, said MeT data.
Meanwhile, as per MeT forecast there is no possibility of any respite from the ongoing hot and dry weather conditions till June 11. The MeT forecast has predicted the heat wave to continue for next two days and isolated rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir on June 11 followed by scattered rainfall on June 12. The mercury soared in all parts of the Valley on Tuesday as even ski-resort Gulmarg recorded 25 degrees Celsius which is 6.4 degrees above normal.
Youngsters could be seen beating the heat by taking a dip in various water bodies. Jammu also witnessed an increase in temperatures and recorded 41.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which is 1.9 degrees Celsius above normal. It may be mentioned that the Valley had earlier this year witnessed record-breaking cold weather and Srinagar recorded temperatures as low as minus 8.5 degrees Celsius. (Greater Kashmir)
