Assam: Nearly 60 thousand people reel under the fury of floods in 5 districts


Assam, nearly 60 thousand people are reeling under the fury of floods in 5 districts. Official sources two persons have lost their lives at Dhemaji and Golaghat districts today .

Sivsagar and Golaghat are among the worst hit districts. Nearly 10 thousand people are taking shelter at 35 relief camps in these two districts. Road movement disrupted at many places due to floods . Different agencies have rescued 2500 people tonight at Golaghat district.

Meanwhile, Water Resource minister Keshab Mahanta and Agriculture minister Atul Bora visited flood affected areas at Golaghat district and met people at relief camps. Later , both the ministers held a review meeting.

Mr. Mahanta told the district administration to step up relief and rehabilitation measures.

Both the ministers instructed concerned authorities to set  up animal camps, bring in more medical teams, take steps to protect the roads from eroding, set up drinking water sources, make proper assessment of crop damage after floods.
