JAMMU: Senior Supreme Court Advocate Ashok Bhan received National Law Day Award for his outstanding contribution in the field of law, human rights and public services on Monday.
Former Chief Justice of India and Chairman NHRC Justice Dr KG Balakrishnan honoured Bhan at an impressive felicitation function at V K Krishna Menon Auditorium in New Delhi.
The award citation lauded Bhan for his contribution in the bofors case as special counsel for CBI in various courts in Delhi and Supreme Court and for representing India at UNGA, UNHCR and many other international forums and for prolific writings in leading national dailies.
Ashok Bhan is a practising senior Advocate at Supreme Court of India and has handled high-profile cases across the country. He worked in Jammu and Kashmir High Court and was one of the prominent advocates till 1988.
Following the turmoil in Valley, Advocate Bhan migrated and shifted to New Delhi and started practicing in the Supreme Court of India.
Bhan is a proud Kashmiri and a patriot who has represented the Country at UNGA and UNHRC and various other international forums.
Bhan is a door tenant at a prestigious law chambers in London.
After migrating from Valley and practicing in New Delhi, he has undertaken a great struggle to build good practise His focus and professional competence came to be recognised as early in nineties when he successfully conducted the BOFORS case as Special counsel for CBI in various courts in Delhi and Supreme Court.
From 1990 to till date, Bhan has been continuously handling matters of great importance, high-profile cases, and other arbitration matters. He is known for his expertise in white collar criminal Law, Constitutional law & arbitration
Bhan who worked as a special senior advocate for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and argued many sensitive matters in various High Courts against high profile corrupt politicians & businessmen.
Bhan is a public speaker, a crusader against terrorism, a human rights activist and expert in conflict resolution jurisprudence. He is a track-II diplomat and a peace activist.
Bhan is also chairman of Kashmir (Policy & Strategy) Group and has also represented cooperate houses and many civil matters and many arbitrations.
He is also a working with London-based law firm and keeps them consulting on various matters.
