Jammu: The youth of Jammu and Kashmir ageing between 18-45 is contracting COVID -19 infection in second wave as compared to the other age groups. Simultaneously, the fatality rate is also rapidly increasing in the same age group across the Union Territory.
“Out of 28359 active cases in Jammu and Kashmir till April 30, 15000 people are between age group of 18-45,” a report said quoting official sources.
“In the first wave of Covid, we have witness elderly people contracted COVID infection while in the second wave many new svariants of the corona virus have arrived and elderly people have learned to some extent how to protect against corona.
“Because of this, children and the elderly are moving out of the house as per their need. But people between the age group of 18 to 45 years, still stay out of the house either due to livelihood or for various other reasons. Because of this, people of the same age group are getting more vulnerable in the second wave and the death rate is also higher in this age group,” he added
In Jammu and Kashmir, about 60 % of the cases are from this age group. In such a situation, this age group should leave this house only by taking special precautions and wearing a double mask. The UK variant in Jammu division is also infecting people quite rapidly.
