Army Chief General Bipin Rawat visited Amritsar on Sunday to review the security situation and operational preparedness of the formations guarding the sensitive frontiers in the western border state of Punjab.
This was the first visit of the Army Chief to the border city since he took over the reins of the Indian Army.
According to an official release, General Rawat visited the headquarters of the Panther Division. Lt Gen Dushyant Singh briefed him on operational preparedness of the Vajra Corps in view of prevailing situation in the region.
General Rawat also interacted with all the formation commanders responsible for the defence of Punjab.
