Amid closure of schools, 80 percent students provided education via different modes: Govt

SRINAGAR, Jun 19: The government on Saturday said it has covered almost 80 percent of the students in providing education amidst the pandemic.

A top level official of the School Education Department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the department has covered almost 80 percent of the students in providing the education via different modes.

The official said that the department was providing education to students via Tele-Classes and Radio-Classes, community and online classes.

The department earlier this month asked all Chief Education Officers (CEOs) of Kashmir division to implement the newly issued guidelines of virtual classes in all government and private schools.

“The principal secretary to government for the School Education Department has said that the CEOs of Kashmir division shall ensure that the newly issued guidelines on virtual classes are strictly adhered by the concerned authorities and all Head of Institutions (HoIs) of all government and private schools,” the government said.

However, earlier on June-1, the government said that the virtual classes for Pre-Primary and Primary classes shall not exceed the time limit of 30 minutes and 90 minutes a day.

Similarly for the students’ upto 8th standard, the government has said that the online synchronous learning may be undertaken for not more than two sessions of 30-45 minutes each on the working days.

Meanwhile, the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) of 2021 states that 22.9 percent of students studying in government and private schools of Jammu and Kashmir were lacking access to smartphones and other gadgets—(KNO)
