ANANTNAG: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, police in a series of actions have arrested seven drug peddlers in Anantnag in the last 24 hours and recovered 9.5 kg of contraband substances from their possession.
A police party of PP Shairbagh arrested a drug peddler identified as Zonain Reyaz son of Reyaz Ahmad Sofi resident of Malaknag along with about 8.3 Kgs of dried cannabis at a checkpoint in their jurisdiction, Anantnag police in a statement said.
“Similarly, a police party of PP Khanabal at a checkpoint established near Petrol Pump Batangoo arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohd Rafiq Dar son of Ali Mohd Dar resident of Batangoo Anantnag. During search, 01 Kgs of Dried Cannabis & 100 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession”, police said in a statement.
Meanwhile, a police party of PP Janglatmandi at a checkpoint established at Brakpora Crossing intercepted a motorcyclist who on seeing the police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party, the statement reads.
During the search, 30 grams of charas, 4 grams of heroin and 8 codeine phosphate bottles were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Mohd Ashraf Dar son of Mohd Iqbal Dar resident of Cherri Panzgam Soaf Shali. The motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, it reads.
Moreover, a police party of PS Anantnag at a checkpoint established near Sports Stadium Anantnag arrested a drug peddler identified as Pir Tousif Ahmad son of Pir Abdul Rashid resident of Kush Rai Kalan Anantang alongwith 200 grams of Charas, it added.
Subsequently, FIRs under relevant sections of the law has been registered and further investigations have been initiated.
In another statement, police said, “A police party from Police Station Anantnag arrested three drug peddlers identified as Zafar Abbas Sheikh son of Mohammad Saleem resident of Sheikh Mohalla Janglatmandi, Yasir Nazir Kadoo son of Nazir Ah Kadoo resident of Qazi Mohalla A/P Dantar, Zubair Ahmad Turray son of Ghulam Nabi Turray resident of Cheeni Chowk at Achabal Adda Anantnag along with 1.2 Kgs of Charas & 06 Grams of Heroin. They have been shifted to the police station where they remain in custody”.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and an investigation has been initiated, police said.
