50 MBBS students from AIIMS Rishikesh to be shifted Jammu this month

The classes for the two batches of AIIMS, Jammu will held at  NITS Polytechnic at Indira Nagar, Miran Sahib on the outskirts of Jammu shortly.


Jammu: The batch of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu pursuing its MBBS at AIIMS Rishikesh, as construction work on prestigious public health medical infrastructure is going on at Vijaypur, will be shifted to Jammu at NITS Miran Sahib in the current month.

The classes for the two batches of AIIMS, Jammu will held at  NITS Polytechnic at Indira Nagar, Miran Sahib on the outskirts of Jammu shortly.

Presently, AIIMS Jammu is functioning from the guest house of Government Medical College, Jammu at Bakshi Nagar.

Two separate blocks-housing classrooms, faculty offices and labs have been created in the NITS, Miran Sahib.  Moreover a hostel facility has also being created foo the students.

The first batch of 50 students who are pursuing its MBBS at AIIMS Rishikesh and second batch of 62 students  being admitted will get the education in NITS, Miran Sahib. While for the third batch in 2023, the MBBS seats intake will be raised to 125 students. All the subsequent batches will pursue their MBBS courses from NITS till AIIMS Vijaypur gets into shape.

The concerned authorities are ramping up the necessary infrastructure and other faculties at the NITS Miran Sahib-required for imparting medical education. The NITS being in close vicinity of Jammu airport will also be helpful to students and visiting faculty.

Rs 1,661 crores have been sanctioned for the AIIMS Jammu project at Vijaypur, including Rs 1,452 crore for construction and Rs 209 crore for medical equipment and furniture.

Under Phase-I of the project, the prestigious project includes hospital; medical college; nursing college; staff quarters; student accommodation; auditorium, AYUSH building, night shelter and other development works. The manpower deployed at the site has been enhanced manifold for completion of the work within the stipulated time-period.

The construction work of AIIMS, Jammu has gathered pace after the removal of most bottlenecks hindering its progress. According to the statistics, 45 per cent of work regarding the construction of the prestigious project at Vijaypur in the Samba district of the Jammu region has finished. AIIMS Jammu will help in generating employment and boost the economy of the region. At one side AIIMS is connected with the Jammu-Pathankot national highway, while on the other side it is connected with Jammu city.

As per sources, the 2200 beds will be established in the upcoming premier health institution in a phased manner. In the first phase about 750 beds, while 1500 beds will be established in second and third phase.
