3 Army soldiers injured in ‘accidental’ blast in Shopian; Nature of blast being investigated says officials

SHOPIAN: Three army soldiers were injured on thrusday in a ‘accidental’ grenade blast in Sadow area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, the officials said.

A top police told that there was accidental grenade blast in which three soldiers of army’s 15 Garhwal were injured and were subsequently hospitalised.

The condition of one among the three injured army soldiers is said to be critical, the officer said.

The grenade, the officer said was army’s own device which exploded accidentally, the officer added.

Hours after the news broke, the police clarified that the nature of blast in which three army soldiers were injured is being investigated.

From its earlier statement that injuries were caused by accidental grenade blast, the police says that investigations are underway to find out nature of the blast which could either be an IED explosion or grenade blast etc.

” A blast took place inside a private hired vehicle at Sedow, Shopian. 03 soldiers injured & shifted to Hospital. Nature & source (blast due to grenade or already planted IED inside vehicle or malfunctioning of battery) of blast being investigated & will be shared,” IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said in a tweet.

A senior police officer told that the final word will come from experts.(GNS)
