RAJOURI: Jammu and Kashmir police in Rajouri district has arrested three local people recovering a consignment of Charas like substance from their possession which was being smuggled in Rajouri town.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Amritpal Singh (IPS) said that on the basis of a specific information regarding possible drugs smuggling attempt, a team of police headed by Deputy SP Headquarter Rajouri Mudassir Hussain alongwith SHO Rajouri Mohammad Showket Chowdhary and officials of anti drugs squad laid nakas at multiples places.

During a similar naka at Darhali bridge, an Ecco vehicle JK11E 2798 was intercepted which was put to frisking but the behaviour of three passengers travelling in the vehicle became suspicious on police frisking which raised suspicion.

Over this, SSP Rajouri said, thorough search of vehicle was conducted in presence of Executive Magistrate during which a hidden portion was found in the co-drive seat window of vehicle and a consignment of drugs was found in it.

He said that a total of 3.8 KGs of Charas like substance has been recovered from the vehicle and three travellers of the vehicle have been arrested.

They have been identified as Ghulam Jeelani son of Mohd Bashir resident of Chowdhary Nar, Amjad Iqbal son of Mohd Azam resident of Rehtal and
Wajid Mehmood son of Mohd Razaq resident of Dhanore Loharan.

A case under relevant sections of law have been registered in Rajouri police station while the recovered consignment was being smuggled towards Rajouri from Kashmir valley.

SSP Rajouri Amritpal Singh (IPS) said that War Against Drugs is going on at full pace in the district and stern actions are being taken with a zero tolerance policy against peddlers.

He said that a medical agency was sealed two days ago for sale of suspicious drugs without any record while many people have been booked in recently and some have been detained under preventive sections of law.
