1678 Kashmiri migrants return to valley for jobs after August 5: Govt

As per the report of Relief Office setup in 1990 by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, 44,167 Kashmiri Migrant families are registered who had to move from the valley since 1990 due to security concerns.  Out of these, the count of registered Hindu Migrant families is 39,782.

Jammu: Asserting that the various measures to restore ancestral properties to migrant Hindus in Kashmir, the government said that the after abrogation of article 370, 1678 migrants have returned to Kashmir for taking up the jobs under the Prime Minister’s Development Package.

“The Government has taken various measures to restore ancestral properties to migrant Hindus. Under the J&K Migrant Immovable Property (Preservation, Protection & Restraint on Distress Sales) Act, 1997, District Magistrates (DMs) of concerned Districts in Jammu & Kashmir are the legal custodians of the immovable properties of Migrants, who take suo motto action on eviction proceedings in cases of encroachment,” Minister of State In The Ministry Of Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said in the parliament.

“The migrants can also request DMs in such cases. The DMs are further empowered to take all steps for the preservation and protection of such properties,” he added.

“As per the information provided by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, after abrogation of Article 370, a total of 1678 migrants have returned to Kashmir for taking up the jobs under the Prime Minister’s Development Package-2015,” he said.

“As per the information provided by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, the land of 150 applicants has been restored.  The Government of J&K has launched a portal on 07.09.2021 to address the grievances of Kashmiri Migrants in this regard, ” he added.

Special Jobs for the Kashmiri migrant youth under the PM package has been an important  component  for  the  rehabilitation   of   Kashmiri migrants.

The Government has devised policies for Return and Rehabilitation of Kashmiri Migrants, under the Prime Minister’s Packages in 2008 and 2015 for Return and Rehabilitation of Kashmiri Migrants to Kashmir Valley.
