15 thousand govt schools in J&K have no books in libraries

LibrarySRINAGAR: In a shocking development, at least 14,929 government-run-schools in Jammu and Kashmir are without books in the libraries—thus raising a question on functioning of the department and quality of education.

The official figures reveal that among the total of 23,173 government run schools in Jammu and Kashmir, at least 14,929 schools that amount to nearly 64 percent of the institutes are without books in the respective institutions. Only 8244 government schools were availing the facilities.

Similarly, at least 47 percent of functional private schools in Jammu and Kashmir san the facilities for its students. The official figures reveal that out of the total number of private schools of Jammu and Kashmir, only 47 percent educational institutes were having the book library facility available for its students.

Likewise, 50 percent of the aided schools functioning here were also lacking the book library facilities. “In aided 7581 schools did not have the book library facilities available for its students and only 7582 such schools were providing the facilities to the student’s.”

It also states that in an overall situation of all schools of Jammu and Kashmir, 31 percent of the schools were lacking the book library facilities for the student and staff that includes all the government, private, aided and other schools.
