Shopian encounter: Two militants killed, operation on

SRINAGAR: Two militants have been killed in an encounter between government forces and militants in Feripora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A senior police officer told that two militants have been killed, whose identification is being ascertained while the operation is on in the area.

Earlier, an official said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter. Pertinently, 12 persons, including seven militants and 5 soldiers were killed in five separate encounters in J&K in the last 30 hours

Two militants one each in Anantnag and Bandipora were killed while five soldiers were killed in Poonch forests on Monday. On Tuesday morning, three militants were killed in an encounter in the Tulran Imamsahib area, of Shopian—(KNO)
