At the invitation of India’s NSA Ajit Doval, Yang Jiechi, member of the polit bureau and director of office of central Commission for foreign affairs will attend the 11th BRICS meeting of NSAs on August 24th by video link.
India is the chair for this year’s BRICS summit which will fifteenth such meeting of the group which is seen as an economic powerhouse in world economy and post COVID economic recovery. Brazil, Russia, China and Sourh Africa are other members in the group.
On the expectations from this meeting, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that BRICS meeting of NSA is an important platform for the five countries to strengthen political security cooperation.
The meeting is a major event before the BRICS summit to be held later this year. NSAs will hold in-depth exchange of views to reach broad consensus on global, regional and national security landscape and cooperation in fields including health, law enforcement, counter terrorism and cyber security.
China attaches high importance to the event. We look forward to working with other members for the fruitful meeting with the guidance of leaders of the BRICS countries, further deepen strategic mutual trust and cooperation and political security.
We will also try to deal with conventional and non conventional security challenges, safeguard our security and development interests, promote world peace and stability, foster a favourable atmosphere for the upcoming summit.
In respect to current situation in Afghanistan, Wang said that situation is still evolving but inherent factors is the main factor and external factor comes after that. We hope that we can maintain professional and balanced role in that situation so as to ensure the steady transition and help Afghanistan to move in a track of steady development.
