Srinagar: Eleven people — including five from Srinagar and two from Jammu — died due to COVID-19 during the last 24 hours, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of J&K to 407.
With these deaths, 372 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in 60 days, and 392 people in 74 day in J&K, where 590 new positive cases were detected on Monday, taking the total number of infected persons to 22,006. “The number of new positive cases has again swelled in Srinagar, where 180 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday followed by Jammu with 72 new cases,” an official said, adding 905 positive patients have recovered today.
J&K recorded the highest number of deaths in a week due to COVID-19 last week with 84 people, mostly from Kashmir, losing the battle against the disease.
Official sources said that five Srinagar residents died due to COVID-19 during the last 24 hours in different hospitals. “All the patients were suffering from respiratory problems,” they said.
They said the district of Baramulla also witnessed one new death due to COVID-19. “Two persons each also lost their live in Jammu and Anantnag,” they said.
They said the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal recorded its seventh death due to COVID-19 on Monday.
With these fatalities, the death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 135 in Srinagar which is the worst affected district in J&K in terms of causalities, followed by Baramulla with 72 deaths. The number has swelled to 26 in Anantnag and 28 in Budgam. As many as 23 people each have lost their lives to the disease in Shopian and 21 in Kupwara while 22 deaths were reported in Pulwama.
The number of deaths stands at 29 in Kulgam. Fourteen people have lost their lives in Bandipora. Ganderbal district recorded seventh death due to COVID-19 on August 7. The number has swelled to 21 in Jammu while Ramban reported its first COVID-19 related death on July 28.
Ten districts of Jammu have reported 29 fatalities while 378 people have lost their lived due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.
Sixty one people, including 57 from Kashmir and four from Jammu, lost their lives due to COVID-19 between July 20 and July 26.
Sixty five people lost their lives between July 13 and July 19 due to COVID-19 in J&K. As many as 48 patients — including 10 persons from Baramulla, 12 from Srinagar, six from Kulgam, three from Anantnag, Kupwara and Budgam, Jammu region, two each from Shopian and Ganderbal, one patient each from Pulwama, Bandipora and a BSF jawan — died due to COVID-19 between July 6 and July 12.
As many as 41 people — including nine from Srinagar, 10 from Baramulla, five each from Anantnag, three from Kulgam, Budgam and Shopian, two each from Kupwara and Bandipora, one each from Jammu and Ganderbal — died due to COVID-19 between June 29 and July 5.
